OPEN FARM DAY From Fall 2011 on Fox
Located in the lovely rolling hills
of northeast Randolph county, the farm and its log buildings are more than 200
years old. Our family began restoring 60 acres of the original homestead in
1983. Today our working farm of 75 acres is rich in the diversity of
pastures, ponds, meadows, gardens, woodlands, wildlife and livestock. Using
sustainable agriculture, we work with nature to enrich rather than deplete our
environment. We intentionally limit the size of our farm operation in order to
maintain the personal quality of our products and continue to enjoy what we do
everyday.
When the North Carolina Department
of Agriculture granted our goat dairy license in 1996, one of only a handful in
the state, it was only natural for us to take the name "Goat Lady
Dairy." Ginnie raised goats as a hobby for many years and was
affectionately known by her friends and customers as "the Goat
Lady." Our name also signifies to us that our goats are ladies with
gentility, grace and individual character! Our herd here at the dairy consists of mixtures of three dairy breeds:
the pure white Saanen, the long-eared Nubian and the multi-colored French
Alpine.
Growing from the first small herd
of Nubian goats we now work with area partner farms who help supply the milk
needed to produce all the goat and cow cheese made here at Goat Lady
Dairy. You can find our products at the
Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market and at fine
stores and restaurants throughout North Carolina.
In addition to our handmade artisan
cheeses, we offer “Farm to Fork” dining adventures at the Dairy. We also host weddings and other private
events. Our newest venture is a non-certified organic vegetable Community
Supported Agriculture program. Our mission is to nurture the land, our
family, and our guests through creative work and quality products.
At your Service, The Tate family -- Lee, Steve, Gareth, Nate, Mills, and Lillian.
