Farmstead Cheese
Like a fine vintage wine from a small vineyard, all our cheeses have a special
flavor with subtle qualities found only in local dairies. Goats for our milking
herd are chosen based on the flavor and qualities their milk contributes to our
cheese. We carefully provide the best nutrition through rotational grazing and a custom blend of fiber, grain
by-products, pro-biotics and hay. This is the "secret" of our fine quality
chevre (goat cheese). We make several styles of cheese including a fresh, spreadable Fromage (in nine flavors), hand-molded Logs, tangy raw milk feta, Smokey Mountain Round, Marinated Chevre, Chevre Camembert, Crottin, Sandy Creek (marbled with grape vine ash), raw milk Providence
(an Italian Taleggio style washed rind cheese) Gray's Chapel (a raw milk,
semi-hard washed rind aged cheese) and our national award winning Goat Lady
Gouda (a raw milk, buttery aged cheese). At
Holiday times we make Chocolate Goat
Cheese Truffles. We continue to develop new styles.
Goat cheese can be used like any other cheese. It is delicious just as a slicing cheese to enjoy with fruit and wine or as a popular ingredient in many delicious recipes. You can spread it on crackers or bread, use it in salads, soups, pizzas or pasta or as a topping for fresh vegetables or baked potatoes. Goat cheese is a healthy alternative to many other cheeses because it is easier to digest and lower in fat and cholesterol.
You can find our cheese each Saturday at the Greensboro Farmer's Curb Market on Yanceyville Street and the Piedmont Triad Farmer's Market off of I-40 at the Sandy Ridge Rd. exit between Greensboro and Winston Salem. We deliver weekly to 20 area restaurants and stores. Contact us for those nearest you. You can buy our cheese everyday at the J & S Farm booth in the Retail Building of the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market. You can buy cheese at our dairy but please phone ahead for times and availability.

GOAT LADY DAIRY -- “Cheese is milk’s leap toward immortality…” Clifton Fadimon
It all starts with the milk…fresh from well cared for healthy animals on local farms. At Goat Lady Dairy we combine the milk from our own herd with several area partner farms to make distinctive artisan products: fresh, ripened and aged goat milk cheeses, aged raw organic cow milk cheeses, goat milk Greek style yoghurt and Chocolate Goat Cheese Truffles.
FRESH GOAT MILK CHEESE:
Spreadable Goat Cheese
This is the freshest cheese with the highest moisture and lowest fat and cholesterol content. Packaged in deli-cups when only two days old this spreadable cheese comes in many delicious flavors: Plain, Basil & Garlic, Sunny Paris, Roasted Red Pepper, Jalapeno, Triple Heat and Fig & Honey. Great as a snack with crackers it is also a versatile addition to soups, pasta, pizza, baked potatoes, etc. Our plain Spreadable Goat Cheese won a FIRST PLACE at the 1999 American Cheese Society National Competition!
Chevre Logs
Chevre Logs are hand-molded and air-dried for a week or so to produce a sliceable consistency and slightly fuller flavor than our Spreadable Goat Cheese. You can slice them into medallions when cold or spread them at room temperature. This is the style of cheese used by most of the restaurants we supply weekly. They use our Chevre Logs as a uniquely flavorful ingredient in many gourmet dishes. Logs come plain or rolled in peppercorns, dill, rosemary or sesame seeds.
Farmers Cheese
This tangy cheese is like a Feta in consistency but not as salty. Farmers Cheese slices and crumbles for salads or with tomatoes like Mozzarella yet it retains creaminess. Use also with egg dishes, on pizza, casseroles, and...
Marinated Chevre
To create our special jars of Marinated Chevre we put two-week old Chevre Log medallions in extra virgin olive oil infused with our special blend of herbs and spices. Olive oil is the traditional and natural way to preserve cheese. By covering the cheese and protecting it from the air, the oil almost stops the ripening process giving this cheese a very long shelf life. It is delicious as a gourmet spread or spooned over hot pasta to make an instant Alfredo.
Smokey Mountain Round
A Goat Lady Dairy original, our smoked cheese is hand formed and dried into a round and then smoked over apple wood logs. Creamy white on the inside and toasty brown on the outside this tangy cheese must be tasted to be understood. Great as a munchie with crackers or use it crumbled over hot steamed vegetables, or pasta or egg dishes or pizza. Our Smoked Round was featured on the EMERIL LIVE cooking show!
Chevre Rounds
Lovely little 4oz rounds of fresh goat cheese are flavored, hand-formed, and dried. They crumble when cold for salads and a tasty topping to many dishes. At room temperature they spread on crackers or bread. Some of our favorite flavors: Spring Garden, Steve’s Curry, A Bit Blue, Roasted Garlic & Peppercorns.
RIPENED GOAT MILK CHEESES
Crottin
Crottin is a traditional French farmhouse cheese made in a characteristic small round shape. Our version is the freshest mold ripened Crottin you can buy released at only two weeks. With its snowy white natural bloom rind and buttery flavor Goat Lady Crottin has been known to make expatriate Frenchmen cry with memories of the homeland!
Chevre Camembert
Also a mold-ripened cheese with a white bloomy edible rind, our Camembert has a buttery brie-like consistency with taste overtones of wild mushrooms in the finish. It is hand ladled using the traditional Normady methods and ripened for three to four weeks. We won 2nd place with our Chevre Camembert at the 2000 American Cheese Society national competition.
Sandy Creek
This unique bloomy rind, soft-ripened cheese is marbled with vegetable ash like many famous French goat cheeses. It is ripened for four to five weeks to develop smooth texture and complex flavors including a bit of blue in the finish. A Goat Lady original, this cheese is named after a famous stream that flows near our farm.
AGED CHEESES
Gray’s Chapel
Named after our rural neighborhood, this mixed milk cheese is a combination of our goat milk and local cow milk. Made in an 8 lb. wheel and aged for 4 to 6 months this semi-hard cheese with natural rind has a unique combination of tangy and nutty flavors.
Old Liberty
Named after the road in front of our barn, this special cheese is made from 100% organic cow milk from our neighbors at Lindale Organic Dairy. A natural rind, semi-hard cheese made in a 6 lb square this raw milk cheese is aged 2 to 5 months. Intense earthy aroma and flavors of butter and fruit make this limited edition cheese a taste to remember.
Other Products
Tango
This tangy Greek style goat milk cultured dairy product is drained overnight for extra thickness and lemony flavor. It is made from ONLY fresh goat milk with no added thickeners, flavorings or preservatives. It contains the live pro-biotic cultures so beneficial to good digestion and health. Use it like yoghurt, sour cream or buttermilk on granola, to make smoothies, biscuits, pancakes, or topping for baked potatoes, taco salad, quesadillas, and…
Chocolate Goat Cheese Truffles
Ordinarily chocolate truffles are made with eggs or cream or butter. Instead of these we only use our fresh spreadable goat cheese (so lower in fat and cholesterol) blended with semi-sweet chocolate and coated in Dutch cocoa to make an extra-ordinary delight tasting somewhere between fudge and cheesecake.
PLEASE NOTE: All our cheeses are available in limited quantities. We make them fresh on different days as seasonal ingredients and conditions allow. The same qualities that give our artisan cheese its special, unique taste make it a delicate, perishable food. We may not be able to fill your order right away. Thank you for understanding.
To order Goat Lady Cheese please phone or e-mail us for availability and prices. If you would like to order our cheese for shipping please contact our distributor, Cornucopia Cheese and Specialty Foods at 1-800-322-9626.
